* The launch of the Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick marks the return of another collector’s item among wristwatches. More than 60 years ago, its historical model served as a chronograph for the navy and medical service. Today, it combines the classic design of yesteryear with the most advanced manufacturing techniques of our time. The result is a robust chronograph with a fascinating history, ready for everyday life and adventure. The original historical model, of which only very few pieces still exist worldwide, is known among collectors as the "Moby Dick". The few surviving examples of the historic 417 ES Moby Dick are now coveted vintage chronographs for collectors.
* This modern, re-launched variant uses the original model as a design touchstone but incorporates modern watchmaking techniques to create a fantastic, contemporary chronograph. Whilst keeping the white dial, Arabic numerals and syringe shaped hands, the watch uses super-luminova to create fantastic legibility in all light conditions. The watch also uses a box sapphire crystal, combining vintage styling with modern robust standards and the 42mm steel case houses a Swiss Sellita SW510 manual wind chronograph movement offering a 48-hour power reserve. The watch comes fitted to a chunky tan brown leather strap on pin buckle, displaying Hanhart's historical logo.

Hanhart first began trading on July 1st 1882 when Swiss watchmaker Johann A. Hanhart opened a watch shop in Diessenhofen, north-east Switzerland. The company quickly re-located to Schwenningen, southern Germany in 1902 and found instant success in 1924 with their first affordable, mechanical stopwatch. By 1938, Hanhart were a pioneer in the production of mechanical chronograph wristwatches, designed for pilots and by the 1960s had also moved into fine timing for sports events and motor racing.
Today, Hanhart still produce a varied range of wristwatches and fine timing stopwatches, tapping into their rich heritage of mechanical watchmaking know-how to produce pieces of incredible craftmanship and functional good looks.
