WATCHES BY MOVEMENT
Metro has only recently won its third design and public choice award in a row, and now the successful model is debuting in a new version: Metro 38 Datum. The new timepiece appears wonderfully generous in its composition, since it is now a touch larger. With its fine minute indexes and the NOMOS long-distance date, Metro 38 Datum’s white silver-plated or ruthenium black dial is decidedly clear and composed; blue or mint green hour indexes at three, nine, and twelve and a seconds hand in red are wonderfully contrasting accents. Just like Metro, this timepiece also ticks with swing—that is, the in-house escapement with which the Glashütte watchmaking company broke the Swatch group’s monopoly last year. This pace setting part, which is decisive for the accuracy, robustness and durability of a watch can only be produced in-house by a very small number of watch companies. The elegant hand-wound caliber, which can be viewed at work through the sapphire crystal glass back, is DUW 4101. With its introduction, the hand-wound calibers with date function from NOMOS Glashütte are also being equipped with swing. Metro 38 Datum is available from Stewart’s this coming summer priced at £2200.
