JUNGHANS MEISTER DRIVER UNVEILED

Spring 2016 sees German manufacturer Junghans unveil the Meister Driver Handaufzug. Drawing inspiration from the classic cars of the 1930s, the Meister Driver delivers an accomplished expression and nostalgic nod to the beautifully designed cars put into production during the 1930s.

Junghans has kept a strong relationship with motorcars, going all the way back to 1892 when Arthur Junghans, son of the company founder Erhard Junghans bought one of the first Daimler test cars. From that point on, a close friendship existed between Arthur Junghans, Wilhelm Maybach and Gottlieb Daimler to the point where the german watch manufacturer regularly played host to the techical elite of the era including Robert Bosch and Ferdinand Von Zeppelin.

The dial of the Meister Driver is reminiscent of a dashboard speedometer and a distinctive laquer underscores the three dimensional aspect of the domed dial. The dial colour of dark anthracite or cream and grey pays homage to the popular interior colours of the time, in particular the Maybach DS 8, which the Meister Driver takes much inspiration.

Although steeped in nostalgia, the Junghans Meister Driver still manages to look modern and contemporary. With its 37.7mm stainless steel case and super luminova dial markings, this watch still manages to incorporate modern sizings and finishes to create a watch very much for 2016.
